Problem:
Bluebird Bio needed to launch 5 new websites with varying requirements:
1: Zynteglo won FDA approval in August to treat patients with beta-thalassemia who require regular red blood cell transfusions. As a one-time gene therapy, the drug carries a multimillion-dollar price tag. Bluebird Bio needed websites launched as soon as possible for HCPs and patients, given how revolutionary the treatment is. They needed a Day 1 website (Coming soon but not yet FDA-Approved), then a Patient & HCP Website once they recieved FDA Approval.
2: Their cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD) gene therapy, bluebird said cell collection for the first patient is scheduled for this month. That drug won an FDA approval last September and boasts a $3 million price tag.
3: Bluebird bio needed to create a website to educate healthcare professionals and patients/caregivers on the treatments they offered.
4: Finally, while SKYSONA was pending approval from the FDA, they needed a Day 1 website (Coming soon but not yet FDA-Approved), as soon as possible.

To start, we had to create a build kit for the developers. To start, we defined the sizes that would be used across devices.

Early on the project, we documented which sizes

I was responsible for helping the Art, UI, and UX teams create a build kit for the developers. Most of the visual designs were complete, but we had to consider how all the visual elements would look when the user hovered, clicked, pressed, held, etc.
In addition to interactive and static elements, we had to consider how the imagery would respond and look on various platforms, whether on an iPad, desktop, or mobile.

Ultimately, the final edition of the Day One website was launched in October. To view what the Day 1 website looked like in full during that time, you may view it here.
